Our Co-founders Lodewyck Berghuijs and Nick van Houtrijve met in Amsterdam in 2009, united by their love of music, but it is their experiences overcoming the trials and tribulations of Bitcoin Mining that led to them creating Pantheon Mining.

Their first commercial enterprise together was hosting live music events, where they worked with the world’s biggest house and techno DJs to attract crowds of up to 10,000 people per day in notable venues such as the Zandvoort Formula 1 circuit. At the same time, the pair also launched a successful nightlife app to allow venues and promoters to grow awareness and footfall using influencers.

Covid’s impact on live events curtailed this business, allowing Lodewyck & Nick to focus on what had been, up until now, an experimental and personal endeavour, Bitcoin Mining. They invested their life savings into self-mining during the hype phase of the third halving cycle under the guidance of a Dutch company.

As with many miners at that time, they were based in China, where the draw of cheap electricity and existing infrastructure made it an appealing location for investment. Initially, success came easily, and they thought they had struck gold.  This success continued for a couple of years until China suddenly banned mining in 2021. This resulted in the immediate shutdown and confiscation of all mining equipment. Lodewyck and Nick’s miners and those of their friends and family were stranded and irretrievable.

Undeterred by these setbacks, they migrated to another mining company with the hope of finding stability in Kazakhstan, given its locality to China and countrywide cheap, reliable electricity. Unfortunately, the influx of miners from China into Kazakhstan overwhelmed the local infrastructure. The increased demand from Bitcoin mining caused communities to experience electricity shortages, as the grid couldn’t handle the load. To accommodate the influx from China, their hosting partners scaled their operations too quickly without putting proper procedures in place. The resulting downtime, in combination with poor 3rd party maintenance and cleaning, negatively impacted the efficiency and longevity of their miners.

Lodewyck and Nick were left frustrated by the lack of professional options available on the market and decided to set up Delos Digital B. V to create their own fully-managed mining venture and provide services to cater to Bitcoin enthusiasts, private investors, and corporate clients.

Their experiences as operators, investors and clients uniquely positioned them to build a Mining as a service to address the most critical challenges in Bitcoin Mining.
